For 14 years, we’ve gathered as a community to celebrate the transformative power of Black storytelling. This year, we honor the theme that runs through our very existence: how music, film, and cultural memory become the medicine that heals our communities.
his year’s I’ve Known Rivers Film Festival carries the theme “Reconstruction, Da Souls of Blacks”—a deliberate nod to our ancestors who rebuilt after devastation, who created culture from nothing, who passed down genius through song and story. We’re honoring that lineage.

The Venue: Strategies and Soul
We’re honored to partner with Strategies and Soul—a revolutionary space in the heart of Leimert Park committed to community-controlled culture. Their Hungry C Theater provides a state-of-the-art screening environment, and their bookstore keeps us connected to the written word.

See a Man Be a Man – Our flagship mentoring program serving 85+ young brothers annually. 100% graduation rate. 80% college enrollment. These aren’t just statistics—these are young men who society wrote off, now headed to USC, UCLA, Howard, Morehouse. Princess 2 Queen – Life mastery training for young women building self-determination in a world that tries to define them. Legendary Nights – Intergenerational programs connecting youth with veteran soul musicians, teaching cultural preservation alongside sound engineering, stage management, and production skills. Malcolm X Corridor – Our 30-year fight to honor Malcolm’s legacy in South LA. We won that battle in May 2025, but the work of cultural preservation continues.
