Celebrating Malcolm X’s Vision Through Education and Community Empowerment
As part of FA-MLI’s renowned Malcolm X Legacy Project, the 2nd Annual Malcolm X Human Rights Breakfast stood as the only event of its kind in Los Angeles over the past four decades, making it a truly historic occasion.
The event featured a powerful tribute to Torrénce Brannon Reese, MSW, delivered by Shianee Lovings. Ms. Lovings shared how Mr. Brannon Reese, through his work with FA-MLI, Inc., provided critical resources and unwavering support that kept her family off the streets during a time of homelessness. She spoke of his profound empathy and commitment to uplifting those in need, reminding all present of the transformative power of community and the difference one person can make.
The breakfast also included impactful presentations and performances, such as statements from See a Man Be a Man alumni, a personal testimony from a young mother experiencing homelessness, and Mr. Brannon Reese’s keynote address titled “By Any Means Necessary.”
The event honored special guests Ms. Sandra Evers-Manly and Mr. Tony Wafford, who each pledged $2,500 towards FA-MLI’s ‘See a Man Be a Man’ program. Solidarity statements were delivered by dignitaries including representatives from Mayor Karen Bass’s office, the Fannie Lou Hamer Institute, and Councilwoman Heather Hutt’s office.
The program concluded with a poetry reading, a video montage showcasing FA-MLI’s work, and a performance by Torrénce BRANNON & his Everything with Soul Band. The event was hosted by Poet/Actor Lorenzo Frank.
