TORRENCE REESE RETURNS FROM SUCCESSFUL “SOUL OF AMERICA” TOUR IN NEW ORLEANS
Los Angeles, CA – Torrence Reese, founder of the Foundation for Arts, Mentoring, Leadership and Innovation (FA-MLI), has returned from a transformative cultural exchange trip to New Orleans, marking a significant milestone in his “Music Saved My Life” documentary project. The October 9-15 trip, part of the “New Orleans: Soul of America Tour,” brought together a diverse group of participants, including two students and two musical artists, sponsored through a recent Snap Foundation grant.
This cultural immersion experience provided unique opportunities for cross-generational learning and artistic collaboration. “Returning to New Orleans, where my career and life began, was both nostalgic and inspiring,” said Reese. “This trip allowed us to connect deeply with the rich musical heritage of the city while fostering new connections between established and emerging artists.”
Highlights of the tour included:
A special performance at Cafe Ito Loop, showcasing the talents of both visiting and local musicians.
Collaborative sessions with renowned jazz expert Dr. Michael White, exploring the city’s vibrant jazz history.
Visits to key preservation societies, strengthening ties between Los Angeles and New Orleans cultural institutions.
Filming crucial segments for the ongoing “Music Saved My Life” documentary, capturing the essence of New Orleans’ influence on American music.
The tour also featured the debut of exclusive “Soul of America” commemorative t-shirts, celebrating the unique spirit of New Orleans and its impact on American culture. “This trip has reinforced our commitment to preserving and promoting African American musical heritage,” Reese added. “The experiences and connections made will undoubtedly enrich our ongoing projects and inspire future initiatives.”
