As part of the larger celebration of African American musical heritage, the festival proudly presents “That’s the Way I Feel About You: A Tribute to Bobby Womack… The Poet.” This special concert, curated by Torrence Brannon-Reese and his Everything With Soul Band, promises to be a cornerstone event of this year’s festival.

Torrence Brannon-reese

Torrence Brannon-Reese, the curator of this special tribute concert, is a multifaceted artist, community organizer, and educator known for his deep commitment to preserving and celebrating African American culture. As a musician and bandleader, he has been instrumental in creating projects that honor legendary artists, blending elements of jazz, blues, and soul in his performances. Brannon-Reese is also the founder of Fa-Mli Inc., a Los Angeles-based nonprofit empowering underserved communities. 

Richard “88 Fingers” Turner

Highly skilled pianist and keyboardist Richard “88 Fingers” Turner rounds out this impressive lineup. His nickname reflects his mastery of the 88 keys, demonstrated through his technical precision and emotional depth. Turner has worked with numerous artists and bands, contributing his talents to both live performances and studio recordings.

Klymaxx featuring Cheryl Cooley

Pioneers in the music industry, Klymaxx rose to fame in the 1980s as one of the few successful all-female bands of their time. Known for hits like “Meeting in the Ladies Room” and “I Miss You,” their unique blend of funk, dance, and R&B continues to captivate audiences. Original guitarist Cheryl Cooley, whose soulful riffs were central to the band’s signature sound, leads this legendary group.

Dwight Trible

Renowned jazz vocalist Dwight Trible is celebrated for his powerful and emotive performances. Blending jazz with spirituals, blues, and gospel, Trible’s innovative approach to vocal jazz has led to collaborations with icons like Pharoah Sanders and Charles Lloyd. 

Eloise Laws

Eloise Laws is an accomplished singer and actress, known for her rich, soulful voice and a career that spans several decades. She is a member of the famous Laws family, which includes her brothers Hubert, Ronnie, and sister Debra, all celebrated musicians. Eloise made her mark with hits like “Love Factory” and “Baby You Lied,” and has performed across the globe, captivating audiences with her unique blend of R&B, jazz, and soul.

TheKarenA w/Jazzy Rita

TheKarenA is a dynamic performer known for her eclectic mix of jazz, soul, and R&B. With a powerful voice and charismatic stage presence, she has carved out a niche in the jazz and soul scene. Jazzy Rita is likely a featured collaborator or musician who performs alongside TheKarenA, adding a layer of jazz-infused melodies and improvisation to their performances.
