Press Release : The 18th Annual Los Angeles, MALCOLM X FESTIVAL of Arts, Culture & Education

LOS ANGELES, April 13, 2023 (Newswire.com)

The renowned Los Angeles Malcolm X Festival, originally started in 1993, and remained a staple in Los Angeles until 2007, then returned in 2022 and will be even more spectacular in 2023.

The Festival will offer an eclectic mix of live musical performances, poetry, spoken word, exciting fashion designs, film screenings, a variety of delicious foods, and an abundance of intellectual conversions and civil discourse designed to ensure that the grand legacy of the iconic Human Rights Leader, El Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, aka, Malcolm X / Omowali, is alive and growing in the consciousness of all of those who ascribe to his teachings, and to introduce the great Malcolm X to a new generation, who might not be familiar with who he was and what he brought to cause of Human Rights.

The Malcolm X Festival grew out of event founder Mr. Torrence Brannon-Reese’s 29 year dream to honor human rights advocate Malcolm X with a street named after him, and that dream has now become a reality. The city council has voted to honor Minister Malcolm X by placing his name on a 5 mile stretch of Crenshaw Boulevard and signs will go up along the corridor stating, “In Honor of Malcolm X”!

Because this area of the city is primarily Black/African-American, this move will significantly intersect with the Rosa Parks Freeway, Obama Blvd, Martin Luther King Blvd, Sankofa Park, and Nipsey Hussle Square. It will also coincide with the city’s Destination Crenshaw Project, and most importantly, will pay homage to our esteemed ancestor and human rights advocate” stated Mr. Andre Parvenu/Msonga Mbele, project coordinator and city planner. Project planners include: Mr. Shaka Satori, Ms. Ashley “Perky” Perkins, Andre Parvenu and Mr. Torrence Brannon-Reese.
