"Save da Children, Save da World."
FA-MLI Inc. presents the 34th Annual Malcolm X Legacy Celebration & Cultural Festival — a full day of culture, art, youth achievement, and community power in the heart of Leimert Black Arts Village. Co-hosted by Selah Blak Sol, this landmark event runs from 12 Noon to 7 PM on Saturday, May 30th, 2026.
34 Years of Showing Up
Thirty-four years is a statement. While organizations come and go, while neighborhoods change and cultural spaces disappear, FA-MLI has gathered this community together every single year in the name of Malcolm X — not as a relic of the past, but as a living call to action for the present.
Malcolm X’s message was always about the children. About education. About self-determination. About a community that refuses to outsource its own liberation. That message is as urgent in 2026 as it was in 1964 — and this festival is FA-MLI’s annual answer to that urgency.
What to Expect
This year’s festival features three signature elements that put youth front and center:
🌍 Organic African Fashion Show — A stunning celebration of African textile traditions, design, and identity, showcasing the beauty and diversity of the African diaspora through fashion as cultural expression.
🎤 City-Wide Talent Showcase — Young performers from across Los Angeles take the stage to share their gifts with the community. Music, spoken word, dance, and more — a platform for the next generation of cultural artists.
✍️ City-Wide Essay & Oratorical Contest — One of FA-MLI’s most powerful youth development tools. Students from across the city compete with their words and their voices — and the top three students in each contest take home cash prizes. This is FA-MLI’s belief made tangible: that a young person’s mind, properly cultivated, is their greatest asset.
Co-Hosted by Selah Blak Sol
This year’s celebration is co-hosted by Selah Blak Sol — a cultural figure whose presence brings additional artistic and spiritual depth to an already powerful day. The partnership reflects FA-MLI’s longstanding practice of building with community artists and organizers rather than working in isolation.
Same Day, Double Impact
May 30th is a full day in Leimert Village. Earlier in the day, FA-MLI hosts the 30th Anniversary Cultural Renaissance Classic Photo Gathering in front of the Vision Theater — making May 30th one of the most significant single days in FA-MLI’s 2026 calendar. Come for the photo gathering, stay for the festival.
